We have not really heard of Toshiba coming up with good Android offerings but the Excite X10 seems to be going good on all the required specs that are expected of an Android tablet in 2012.

Some information on the Toshiba Excite X10:

  1. Launching with Android 4.0 - Ice Cream Sandwich - something which bigger manufacturers do not seem to be able to commit to!
  2. 10.1 inch display, protected by Corning Gorilla Glass, with 1280 x 800 pixels resolution.
  3. 7.7mm thickness - in our opinion, great decision on making it slim!
  4. Sporting a dual core 1.2Ghz processor, on a TI OMAP 4430
  5. 5MP rear camera with a 2MP front camera

The Toshiba Excite X10 will be released in the US sometime in Q1 2012 for $529 for a 16GB model.

CES 2012 Day 2: Viewsonic Viewpad E70

While the specs for the E70 may not blow many away, the price tag of $170 certainly managed to garner some attention at the event. Adding to Viewsonic Viewpad tablet line, the E70 will certainly appeal to the budget conscious user that still want a piece of the Android 4.0 experience.

Basic specifications for the Viewsonic Viewpad E70:

  1. A 7 inch tablet running Android 4.0
  2. 1Ghz single core processor
  3. 4GB internal storage and support microSD up to 32GB

The release date of the E70 is scheduled to be late Q1 at a retail price of $169.99

CES 2012 Day 2: Intel, Motorola and Lenovo announced multi year, strategic agreement

In this strategic agreement, Motorola and Lenovo each commit to produce smartphones based on Intel’s Atom processor Z2460 platform in 2012. This announcement came just hours after Qualcomm demonstrated its forthcoming ARM-based Snapdragon S4 processor technology running Microsoft’s emerging Windows 8 operating system. In a sign that Intel is not going to go down without a fight in the mobile arena, this agreement will help to accelerate Intel's foray into the mobile business and serve as a warning to ARM.

“We expect the combination of our companies to break new ground and bring the very best of computing capabilities to smartphones and tablets,” Intel CEO Paul Otellini said.

Although the current Z2460 platform only supports single core, Intel confirmed plans to launch a dual-core variant later this year. This is probably one of the reasons why Motorola will start shipping the first Intel-powered smartphones in the second half of the year. Do stay tuned for that!

  2. It is also complemented by a PowerVR SGX 540 graphics processing unit
  3. 4.5 inch display with 720p resolution
  4. 8MP rear camera
