CES 2012 - What to expect

Last Updated on Friday, 06 January 2012 22:00

Traditionally, a lot of mobile manufacturers will wait until the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in February every year to launch their new smartphones or tablets, but in recent years, some manufacturers have taken to launch some of their products at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) to steal a few weeks of publicity before the rest of their rivals.

2012 proves to be a big year for tablets. We should be seeing plenty of quad core Tegra 3 tablets being launched at the show. Besides that, several new smartphone models will be launched as well.

CES 2012 - Motorola

Motorola has confirmed that they will be launching the Motoluxe - a new Android budget smartphone - and the Motorola Defy Mini - a smaller version of the rugged smartphone from the manufacturer.

CES 2012 - HTC

There have been some rumours that HTC might take the chance to launch the HTC Quattro - HTC quad-core tablet but this has not been confirmed yet. As for mobile, there are the usual suspects such as the HTC Edge and the HTC Ville

CES 2012 - Acer

The Acer Iconia A700, again another quad core tablet, is Acer's latest attempt to garner some market share in the tablet domain and its rumoured 1080p resolution should help it gain quite a few supporters!

CES 2012 - Samsung

The Samsung Galaxy S3 is confirmed to be launched in 2012 and we will not be surprised if Samsung takes the chance to show off previews of the next big smartphone in the Galaxy lineup. However, it seems unlikely that Samsung will be launching the Galaxy S3 so early in the year. February's MWC seems to be a safer bet for that.

CES 2012 - LG

Will LG surprised us with a launch of the rumoured LG Optimus U1 running Android 4.0?

CES 2012 - Sony Ericsson

We should be seeing the launch of the much-publicised Xperia Arc HD.

Leaked pictures of the Xperia Arc HD show the smartphone packing a 4.3-inch LCD display with 1280 x 720 resolution. In the engine room, iit will house a dual core processor, most probably a 1.5GHz Scorpion cores, with 1GB of RAM. With the recent acquisition of Ericsson's share of the business by Sony, the company will be eager to convince stakeholders and users that there are exciting events coming up!
