Making the Big Jump from iPhone to Android

Last Updated on Friday, 07 October 2011 15:53

Most of the time, when you grown accustomed to a particular object or a certain process, it becomes very difficult to change your habits overnight.

When it comes to usage of electronic devices, it becomes all the more difficult as most of us tend to stick to our comfort zone and not explore something else. Just like one will find it very hard initially to switch from a PC to a Mac, the same thing is applicable for the operating systems on our mobile phones.

The iPhone has been tremendously popular among everyone and people have been raving about it. It will be fair to say that a lot of the iPhone users nowadays have already formed an expectation of a certain standard or design when it comes to interface navigation and the usage of the phone itself. Moreover, the lock-in effect created by having all your apps already installed on your existing iPhone make for a very effective barrier to entry for any competitors.

However the Android operating system has some great features that might convince you to make a move from the iPhone. Regular and dedicated iPhone users might find some difficulties initially while using their Android phones. They might also not be able to figure out options that were otherwise readily visible on their iPhones.

Much of the instinctive habits of the iPhone and its users do not go hand in hand with the Android phones. For example, the Menu in an Android phone is not similarly located as that of the iPhone. As such, new iPhone-to-Android users might find themselves getting frustrated for not being able to navigate with as much ease as they are accustomed to. But if you give yourself some time to play around with the Android Phone, then you will definitely be able to spot the dedicated ‘Menu’ button just beneath the screen. If you want to jump to a previous screen in an app or the web browser then hitting the ‘Back’ button would be enough.

We understand the difficulties in making the big jump from an iPhone to an Android and thus, over the next few weeks, the team will do its best to provide a series of how-to articles touching on the configuration and setting up of your new Android phone. Do stay tuned for more updates!
