It is that time of the year again to find out which smartphones stand out from the others in the ocean of Android smartphones that we see in 2011.
So, what makes them our favourite Android smartphones of 2011? All of the nominees in the list contribute or stand out in their own unique ways in 2011. Most importantly, somehow, our team members just love them! Without further delay, let's unveil the first of the lot:
Our Favourite Android Smartphones in 2011: HTC Evo 3D

Coming in fast in the nominee list is the HTC Evo 3D. This smartphone is on the heavier side but in return, you get a "rubberised" back and the phone comes with red detailing too! Great design in our opinion. Under the hood, the Evo 3D has a 1.2Ghz dual core processor that ensures that multitasking is definitely not a problem with this device. Let's not forget the 3D feature in the phone. Sure, some may think that this "3D" feature is just a gimmick but the 3D effect is adequate and it's there for those who like it. Not to mention that the smartphone's regular 2D pictures are equally beautiful and clear.
Our Favourite Android Smartphones in 2011: Samsung Galaxy S2

Well, who can leave out this nominee? What is slim, beautiful and just plain awesome? The Samsung Galaxy S2 of course. All of us were captivated by its Super AMOLED Plus display and I am proud to admit that I am carrying one around with me now! Besides its 1.2 Ghz dual core processor, the Galaxy S2's multitasking ability is great. In addition, playing graphically demanding games with this phone is not an issue. This device is a well-balanced phone and perfect for someone who is looking for a productivity tool.
Our Favourite Android Smartphones in 2011: Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S

Up until the arrival of the Xperia Arc S, Sony Ericsson devices have lacked dual core processors. It's the same story with the Xperia Arc S but the company compensate for that by having a 1.4 Ghz single core processor in this device. It's most prominent feature, however, is still its arched back. The display on the phone is great as well and in addition, Sony Ericsson uses Reality Display technology that brightens the screen up and shows off its rich colours. The Arc S also has the ability to take 3D pictures. Just activate the camera and pan for a very short distance to convert 2D images to 3D images!
Our Favourite Android Smartphones in 2011: LG Optimus Black

Now, this nominee might pose some questions to our readers. What is the Optimus Black doing here? Well, for starter, the LG Optimus Black is a slim and sexy device. Now, LG devices have a tendency to be either too thick or too large. The Optimus Black is the first of its kind to have the right proportion in our opinion. Although it is fitted only with a 1Ghz single core processor, it gets the job done. What really set it apart is the new Gesture UI that it is running on. Besides a new UI, the Optimus Black also has a new display type. It is not AMOLED, LCD or Retina, but rather Nova. So, what's the big deal with Nova? This new display has luminance reduction technology that will increase battery efficiency. All in all, the LG Optimus Black is a great phone with affordable prices.
Our Favourite Android Smartphones in 2011: Motorola Atrix

The Atrix almost didn't make it into the nominee list. To be fair, the Motorola Atrix is a great phone, if not for the pricing issues that cause buyers to think twice before purchasing one and its accessories. The 4 inch Gorilla Glass is great and with a 960 x 540 resolution, everything on the screen looks crisp and clear. Coming into the market with a dual core 1 Ghz processor, multitasking is of course not a problem with this device. Graphically demanding games are also not a concern for this powerful device.
We understand that a lot of our readers will definitely disagree with our choice of "Favourite Android smartphones in 2011". Please do share with us what is your favourite Android smartphone of 2011!
