Samsung Galaxy S users have been optimistic about their chances of getting an update to Ice Cream Sandwich as the 1GHz processor that the Galaxy S sported is more than enough to handle the new Android version. However, this has been proven wrong.
According to Samsung, the Samsung Galaxy S and Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 will not be getting the update.
Reason? The Touchwiz UI running on Ice Cream Sandwich will require more ROM and RAM than what the Galaxy S and Galaxy Tab 7.7 have to offer. Now, this seems to be quite unfair and a major loss for a lot of Galaxy S users (10 million of them to be precise) since it is not a hardware requirement issue but rather, a constraint that is brought about by Samsung own customized interface running on top of Android.
We are not the only ones that felt that way and according to a report by Business Insider via MSN Korea and the Verge, the huge uproar has caused Samsung to rethink their decision and they may be backtracking on it. However, as of now, there is still no official statement from Samsung yet on the Ice Cream Sandwich update for Samsung Galaxy S.
We do hope, for Samsung's sake, that there will be positive news coming out soon for the Galaxy S users!
