Nowadays, every single smartphone and tablet has a camera installed into it. The problem is, all these devices do not have a good camera to boast about. Because of this, Polaroid has decided to join the bandwagon and provide Android fans something that other manufacturers have not thought of—an Android Powered digital camera.
With Polaroid’s SC1630 digital camera, things will finally start evolving into good to better. The device carries a 16MP camera which features a 3x optical zoom lens. This alone already sets itself apart from the other Android (or even iOS) devices.
At the back of the SC1630 is a 3.2-inch touch screen where users are able to do anything they want as the same with a typical Android device—they can browse the net, play games, and even access the Android Market. The SC1630 phone is also Bluetooth and Wi-Fi ready. In addition, it will soon be available with an optional cellular data plan for users who demand on-the-go connectivity. It makes use of a microSD memory, which supports up to 32GB sized cards.

Apart from the amazing camera, the SC1630 also has a feature that’s typically not found on other devices—the Smart Albums function which automatically collates photos according to people, location and date. It also has a geo-tagging function. Moreover, the phone has a built-in app that allows photo editing. This will enable users to crop, resize, remove red-eye, and do color correction on photos without needing to transfer it to a computer. Lastly, the device has a one-touch upload feature which transfers photos to social-networking sites.
This is one way for Polaroid to say that they are still part of the camera scene. While they are no longer producing instant film for the classic Polaroid cameras, the company has kept up with the times and has evolved their products to accommodate the stylish youth. Recently, the company released the Z340, a retro styled digital camera with a built-in printer. Polaroid also still produces instant film cameras that make use of 300 series instant film.
The SC1630 Android powered camera will be available sometime this year. However, a price has not yet been disclosed.
