Samsung announced today that its Galaxy S handset has been ringing up some impressive sales numbers in the U.S. This device was first announced in the U.S some time ago but didn’t make its way onto American shelves until July 15th. While bearing the Samsung Galaxy S branding, it features various names for the different carriers like Samsung Vibrant on T-Mobile, Samsung Captivate on AT&T, Samsung Fascinate for Verizon and Samsung Epic 4G on Sprint.
Since shipments of the device started on July 15th, the Korean based manufacturer has sold 1 million units of the phone. This is quite a number to put up considering it was Samsung’s first attempt at an Android phone and it has definitely exceeded all expectations of this model.
While the success can be attributed to the Galaxy S’ beefy specs, it can also be attributed to the fact that it is, well, everywhere. Not only is it on virtually every carrier in the United States but Samsung has thrown an immense amount of money into marketing for the device. With some timely and clever marketing by Samsung, the Galaxy S joins other handsets like the Apple iPhone 4, Motorola DROID X and EVO 4G as phones that have been in heavy demand for much of the summer. Samsung Android smartphones have definitely evolved into a league of their own.
Dale Sohn, president of Samsung Mobile, said, "I am proud of the instant success of the Galaxy S line up and I am very pleased to announce that because of the support of our carrier partners and loyal customers, we have shipped one million Galaxy S devices in the U.S. market. Samsung Mobile looks forward to sharing additional Galaxy S milestones in the future."
It will not be a surprise if sales numbers for the Samsung Galaxy S hits the 2 million marks come October.
