Techradar recently published an exclusive article on the deployment of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 on the London Eye. A set of six 10.1 inch white Galaxy Tabs have been mounted on each capsule with secure fittings to its railings. Each Tab presents a section of the famous London skyline and users can interact with it to gain more information about the scenery that unfolds in front of them.
The Galaxy Tabs certainly do not look out of place within the capsule and is a delightful addition to the tourist experience at the London Eye. In fact, judging from the pictures presented by Techradar, they even enhance the original look of the interior of the capsule, while at the same time providing a fun and educational experience for young and old.
When Android tablets are first introduced, we had thought that more will start to utilize them as more than just an alternative to iPad. Certainly, due to the open nature of Android, touchscreen capability as well as being highly customizable, it is not hard to visualize an Android tablet being used in various places. What about a food menu? Or a virtual guide at a tourist attraction? Maybe, even as an electronic test paper?
It will not be necessary to maintain proprietary systems or to purchase different hardwares to support the software. Just get an Android tablet, get an app developer to develop the required application for the desired functionality, and there you have it! Obviously, there are also security implications due to the open nature of Android. However, the advantages seem to outweigh the disadvantages in this instance.
