UOregon app is now available in the Android Market. The app is the official mobile app of the University of Oregon which boasts the same features as the earlier launched iOS app. Released just this week in the Android Market, it is expected to turn itself into a highly in demand app just like its counterpart.
The good thing about the app is that it guides its users around the campus with 5 different available tours. In addition, the app has a map of precise locations of various books stored inside the largest library in the state. The latest features and news stories about the university are also published to the app. More excitingly, the app provides a map and a walking route between points to any room located on the campus.
Even though the tours are a part of its features, it was recently added to the app to highlight the 295-acre campus via different viewpoints. This will make the app user feel like he is having a personal tour of the different locations in the campus, including the artwork and historic buildings, sustainability features, and even the campus trees. Anyone who’s not physically on the campus can still get to experience the university through the app.

With the approval of the university’s Finance and Administration division, Christine Thompson (an associate in Campus Planning and Real Estate) was able to spearhead the entire tour experience in the app.
“We wanted to convey the beauty of campus in an innovative way to audiences around the world,” said Thompson. “We have a treasure trove of information about our special places, trees and sustainable features. I really hope we can build on our success in the app.”
The app was finished by the same team of students, faculty and staff members of the Geography Department’s InfoGraphics Lab. They are also responsible for the iOS version of the app which was first released in the summer of 2010. As of this writing, the app has been downloaded over 70,000 times in the App Store (Apple) and has maintained a steady 4-star rating. Perhaps, the Android version will reap the same ranking with the iOs version?
“We’re optimistic Android users will use our app at the same rate as the iPhone user community,” said Ken Kato, head of the mobile efforts of the lab.
