Over five months after initially being announced, Dell's first smartphone, the Android-powered Aero, is finally available for purchase through Dell's official website.
Originally released in China as the Mini 3, the Dell Aero, one of the lightest multi-touch 3.5-inch Google Android-based smartphones in the U.S., is designed to deliver a powerful, flexible, and entertaining experience in a stylish and compact design.
The slim Aero measures 11.6mm x 121.92mm x 57.9mm and weigh only 104g
In addition, and similar to other AT&T smartphones with Wi-Fi, the Dell Aero is able to access any of the “more than” 20,000 Wi-Fi Hotspots from AT&T.
Other Dell Aero Key Features:
- Experience YouTube and other Flash content
- One-touch access to social networks
- Android platform complete with Android Market and Dell user interface enhancements
- 3.5-inch (640 x 360p) capacitive multi-touch display with pinch-to-zoom functionality
- Quad-Band GSM/GPRS/EDGE (850/900/1800/1900 MHz)
- Tri-Band UMTS/HSDPA (850/1900/2100 MHz)
- WiFi + Bluetooth
- 2GB on board user accessible Micro SD with expandable memory available up to 32 GB
- Full HTML Browser with Adobe Flashlite
All things considered, launching with Android 1.5 is a shame for the Dell Aero because it looks to be a nice mid-range handset. A smartphone that is relatively small and light and still packing a decent (3.5″) sized display. An update might come sometime in Q4 2010 but that has not been confirmed.
The Dell Aero is now available for $99.99 with a 2-year AT&T contract, or for $299.99 without activation.
