Starting off with a Bang – Introducing the Motorola Droid X

Android has been creating a lot of hype in the mobile domain. With each release, it has continued to evolve itself with the addition of various features which have hugely improve the competitiveness of the OS.

For Motorola’s new Droid X, the future does look bright and it is scheduled to be released by Verizon today (same day as AMU Go-Live date!).

This hugely anticipated Android Smartphone has already drawn much attention prior to its date of release with its frequent comparison to Sprint HTC Evo 4G and Apple iPhone 4.

One of the reasons for the Droid X coming into the limelight now must surely be due to the emergence of Android as a major player in the mobile smartphone market. According to a report released by marketing firm Cornscore, Android’s mobile market share increase by 44% from February to May. Android’s share of the U.S market jumped from 9 percent in February to 13 percent in May. It definitely seems like a lot of consumers like what they see in Android and manufacturers have been eager to produce Android products to suit what the consumers desire.

Droid X is an Android 2.1 phone (upgradable to Android 2.2 when available), equipped with a 4.3-inch touchscreen, 1GHz processor, 8-megapixel camera, high-definition video recorder, HDMI jack, Wi-Fi, 8GB of built-in memory plus a high-capacity microSD card slot for a potential 40 GB of storage and a built-in mobile hotspot.

Unfortunately, it has been getting a lot of stick about it not having a front facing camera, being top heavy and having small physical control buttons. In my opinion, it does seem to be quite bulky and might turn out to be quite a tight fit if placed in the pockets. Other than the size issue though, it IS a great phone! Running on Google Android OS v2.1, sporting a 8-megapixel camera with dual-LED flash, HD video recorder and Long battery life (which has been the ban of smartphones in general), the Motorola Droid X will surely be among the best phone in the market for some time to come.
